HRRN TO HOST FIRST INTERNATIONALLY BASED BROADCAST WITH LIVE COVERAGE OF SANDY LANE BARBADOS GOLD CUP MARCH 5
Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN), the Eclipse Award-winning broadcast organization based in Lexington, KY announced Thursday, they will host an historic broadcast of the Grade 1 Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup live from Garrison Savannah in Barbados on Saturday, March 5.
The broadcast marks yet another milestone for HRRN, which in 2015 partnered with NBC Sports and Westwood One to broadcast thoroughbred racing’s first Triple Crown winner in 37 years. In addition, the network has been the exclusive radio partner of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships since 2007.
“As we continue to expand our racing coverage and broadcast platforms, international racing is certainly one of the more prolific focal points and having the opportunity to host a broadcast live from Garrison Savannah is a tremendous thrill,” said HRRN President, Mike Penna. “HRRN has experienced so many signature moments over the course of the past decade and we are extremely grateful to trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., Petra Roach, Rosette Pierce and everyone at the Barbados Turf Club for their support in helping us achieve yet another milestone.”
“The Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup is considered to be the premiere racing event in the Caribbean and we are extremely pleased to partner with HRRN, Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc and Sandy Lane Hotel in bringing the action live to race fans across North America,” said Rosette Pierce, Barbados Turf Club Secretary and CEO. “This year we have four horses in SAYLER’S CREEK, WATCHYOUROWNBOBBER,
WAR ENVOY and DORSETT who have campaigned on the U.S. racing circuit and should be of special interest to international listeners. It promises to be a competitive and exciting race and we welcome the opportunity to share our unique style of racing with the world.”
HRRN’s broadcast is presented by Barbados Tourism Marketing, Inc., Sandy Lane Hotel and the Barbados Turf Club. Coverage begins at 3:00 p.m. ET and will be aired throughout North America on SiriusXM satellite radio (Sirius 83/XM 201), with worldwide streaming provided on the HRRN website, www.horseracingradio.net. Mike Penna will anchor the coverage alongside analyst Jude Feld.

About Barbados Turf Club:
The Barbados Turf Club, which regulates and promotes horse racing in Barbados, was established in 1905 and organizes approximately 25 race meetings throughout the year. Located close to the capital, Bridgetown, the Garrison Savannah has been the home of horse racing in Barbados since 1845. British officers, who were stationed in Barbados, used what was then the parade ground to match their horses in races against wealthy merchants and planters. Today, the excitement produced by the thousands of exuberant spectators is contagious and this being Barbados, horse racing is used as a great excuse for an array of entertainment and festivities. The people of Barbados love sharing their sport with visitors and a warm welcome awaits. Those who want to enjoy the spectacle from the stands can do so, whilst others who prefer an informal picnic atmosphere can lounge in the shade of the tall trees surrounding the track. Visitors can feast on delicious Barbadian dishes and quench their thirst with drinks ranging from refreshing coconut water and icy cold beer to the finest Barbadian rum.
