KEENELAND SALES PRESENTS SPECIAL HORSE WEEK SERIES ON HRRN
LEXINGTON, KY (April 3, 2024) – Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN), the award-winning broadcast organization based in Lexington, KY, announced today they will feature a special series of ‘Horse Weeks’ presented by Keeneland Sales to celebrate the accomplishments of legendary Keeneland sales graduates.
The series began with ‘Spectacular Bid Week’ on Monday, April 1 leading up to the 100th renewal of Keeneland’s historic Blue Grass Stakes. A graduate of the 1977 Keeneland September sale, Spectacular Bid won 26 of 30 lifetime starts with earnings of more than $2.7 million, including victories in the 1979 Blue Grass, Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Racing in the colors of owners Hawksworth Farm, he recorded 13 Grade 1 wins and was described by his trainer Bud Delp as “The greatest horse to ever look through a bridle.”
Throughout the week, HRRN will pay tribute to Spectacular Bid across their full platform of shows, as well as on the network’s social media pages, website and e-newsletters. Listeners will enjoy replays of Spectacular Bid’s biggest wins along with interviews and conversations looking back on his brilliantracing career.

Additional ‘Horse Weeks’ presented by Keeneland Sales include Winning Colors Week, April 29 – May 4, celebrating the 1988 Kentucky Derby heroine, and A.P. Indy Week recognizing the accomplishments of the 1992 Belmont Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner.
Winning Colors was a 3-time Keeneland Sales graduate, including a $4.1 million auction price at the 1989 Keeneland November mixed sale. A.P. Indy brought a final bid of $2.9 million to top the 1990 Keeneland July select yearling sale.
