Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN), the Eclipse Award-winning broadcast organization based in Lexington, KY, announced Monday they have reached an agreement with all three Triple Crown racetracks for HRRN to provide the national radio broadcast of the 2012 Triple Crown for the second consecutive year. Having reached an agreement with Churchill Downs Incorporated, HRRN will provide the exclusive broadcast of both the 138th Kentucky Oaks on Friday, May 4th, and the 138th Kentucky Derby on Saturday May 5th. HRRN will then move on to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD for the 137th Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 19th, then return to New York for the final jewel in the crown, the 144th Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 9th.
In 2011, HRRN was named the exclusive radio partner of the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby, and has provided the national broadcast the Preakness Stakes since 2008 along with the Belmont Stakes four of the past five years.
“The Triple Crown transcends the sport of horse racing as one of the most recognizable events in any sport,” said Mike Penna, President of HRRN. “The privilege of being part of these historic events as a broadcast organization is truly an honor. From the always emotional rendition of My Old Kentucky Home, to the excitement of watching the Derby winner compete in the Preakness hoping for the chance to make history in the Belmont Stakes three weeks later, our goal is to ensure that listeners around the world have the opportunity to experience these truly unique and special elements of each race.”
”The HRRN team consistently delivers energetic and informative broadcasts of horse racing’s biggest events. There is no bigger stage than the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks, and we’re thrilled to partner with HRRN once again to deliver our great racing events to sports fans listening around the world,” said Churchill Downs Racetrack President Kevin Flanery.
“We are pleased to continue the relationship with HRRN for the fifth consecutive year,” Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas said. “It has been a very positive association. We are happy the Preakness is showcased in a first-class broadcast.”
“We are extremely pleased that once again HRRN will be providing coverage of New York’s premier race, the Belmont Stakes,” said NYRA Director of Communications and Media Relations Dan Silver. “HRRN does a terrific job with their Eclipse Award-winning coverage of thoroughbred racing, providing fans around the globe with unparalleled coverage of our sport’s marquee events, and this year promises to be the best one yet.”
Each of HRRN’s Triple Crown broadcasts will air live from 5:00-7:00 ET, and will be carried on HRRN affiliates throughout the country as well as on SiriusXM satellite radio. Coverage will also be broadcast to U.S. service men and women around the globe on the American Forces Network, and streamed live on the HRRN website, www.horseracingradio.net.
HRRN has scheduled nearly 30 hours of on-site Triple Crown coverage beginning Wednesday, May 2nd with their popular Derby Countdown Show hosted live from Churchill Downs.
