Pete Kules - "The
Doctor of Trackside Commentary"
Pete brings a
lifetime of broadcast and Thoroughbred racing experience to the
Lexus Equine Forum.
Pete's passion for
the sport spans six decades, earning his first stripes as a hot
walker and groom. After stints as a vet's assistant and
assistant starter, Pete parlayed his backside experience, going on
to call and handicap Thoroughbred and harness races, as well as
launching a four-decade career as a sports writer and
broadcaster.
An award-winning
broadcaster, Pete has covered professional and college athletics
throughout North America. However, it is horse racing that has
held Pete's interest for six decades.
Mike Penna - “The
Baron of the Backstretch”
Mike’s passion for
the racing spans more than 15 years. In 1989, he stood alongside
the rail at historic Saratoga Racecourse and watched as Easy Goer
won the Travers Stakes.
After cashing his winning ticket on the heavy favorite, he
was hooked for life.
A native of
Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Mike and his wife, Michelle, relocated to
Lexington in 1997. Mike worked
at The Jockey Club, Thoroughbred Times, and Keeneland's racing
office before pursuing his interest in
broadcasting.
Mike joined Pete as
his co-host in May of 2003.
Nine months later, the duo received the sponsorship support
of the Lexus Store of Lexington and renamed the show the Lexus
Equine Forum.
